Human Greed

By: Syrine Ben Ayed

The world is riddled with issues. We hear about them every day, and they seem to be increasing at an accelerating rate.

Climate change, race relations, xenophobia, poverty, child labor - you name it.

I believe that the biggest culprit in the listed issues is human greed. More and more people are losing their values and seem to want to make money at any cost by polluting, invading people’s rights, exploiting kids, and misappropriating land from the weak. More and more people are choosing to see division and create conflict as a means to make quick riches. Many people are choosing to bulk out of long term sacrifices in favor of easy, speedy, and fortuitous ones… but at what cost?

I believe that if we all came together to put logical and fair policies to combat these issues if we invested in long term sound decisions if we agreed on global accords on climate and human rights, we will all be in a better place, and would guarantee to leave a better world for our children and grandkids.

Time is of the essence. Every day that passes, we are becoming more oblivious to the world’s issues, to the kids who die in Palestine, to the doctor that dies of Covid-19, and to the trees that go up in flames. I do not want to be the frog that died because it did not sense the water had boiled.
