The Art of Literature

Literature, just another form of communication some might say, but others (like me) would think of it to be the art of life, the way of expressing true passion and feelings through words that may or may not make sense. If you have ever read a play by Shakespeare, they probably sound tedious and complicated. I had to read Hamlet twice to understand what the plot of the story was. But it does not matter if you read it once or twice or even five times, but the concept of one's writing is to express what the true meaning of life is for a character in the story. That is what writing and literature mean, the personality of a character (or characters), the little differences in them that almost bring them to life. Even if the book is adventure or romance, you could change it by modifying the character. For example, “there is more to me than I know of”, said he, his eyes simmering with specs of tears, his face turning pale, his head bent down to ignore the looks of my eyes. I could sense the shame and guilt he felt from his ignorance. This sentence seems as if the character is feeling drastically unhappy, if I change a few things, “there is more to me than I know of”, his eyes were glittering with joy like he wanted to see beyond himself, he was craving for more, wanting to understand the world, his beautiful teeth were shining from below his rose-pink lips as he smiled, a gorgeous smile, the sentence completely changed when the characteristics of the character are different. In this example, we can see the story itself changing when the character's feelings and thoughts changed.

Books are one of the best types of literature. They are a short or long pamphlet of the author's characters. When you begin reading, the first step is to pick a good book, to make it easier for you here is a list of books that I loved.

To truly understand something, we must learn the background knowledge of it. The word literature comes from the Latin word, letters. The first-ever written language was The Sumerian language, during 3100 B.C. (before christ or before common era), a new advanced language was created and later became a written language. People used this language to write on a stone, to write stories or anything they needed. The first-ever book is called the Epic of Gilgamesh, written in 1800 B.C. The poem/book is about the adventures and stories of Mesopotamia. This book is in the Akkadian language, the writer is unknown exactly, but some believe that Sîn-lēqi-unninni had written this poem. During the 5th century, the most common language, English, had been invented. The English alphabet, which was created during the 16th century, was created by the Phoenicians. The first book in English is The Recuyell of the Historyes of Troye, by Raoul Lefèvre, this book had been written during the 1473’s.

Reading this, I hope you have understood how important literature is to this world. It is the communication through words and feelings, the way to express the author's and the character's thoughts and personalities. Literature is a part of history, which means understanding it is necessary.
