I interviewed Joline, former SPL, and Rachel, Former ASPL, for this report.
Our troop, 2220 Fremont, was chartered on February 1st, 2019, the very first day any girls were allowed to join Scouts BSA. It was originally planned by Crew 176 of Fremont, who had a small group of dedicated girls that had been in Venturing for years and wanted a chance to earn Eagle as proper Scouts, having done many high adventure trips and participated alongside Boy Scouts in activities such as indoor rally and NYLT for years without being able to do rank advancement like them. With the help of their supportive crew advisor and the especially hard work of their founding SPL Melody Fewx, the crew recruited and began to teach a group of girls scouting and backpacking skills. They would become the founding members of 220 alongside the older girls of Crew 176 (Melody, Felicia, Sofia, Anika (who helped but did not charter with the troop officially), Serena, and Joline). Their crew advisor became the first scoutmaster of the troop. Many of girls of 176 are currently still working toward their goal of Eagle (excluding Melody who has received it) and the troop has at one point grown into the largest female Scouts BSA troop in America.
